Encryption may take up to 1 full day to finish, depending on the speed of the computer.
Restarting, sleeping, hibernating, and shutting down the computer with no impact on the encryption process. You can also use your computer as usual immediately. This has little to no noticeable performance impact on your computer.
The encryption takes 30 seconds to enable per computer, and then will run in the background. Enabling the encryption function in your operating system takes only minutes to complete. Your operating system’s login passwords do not protect your data data on stolen computers is easily accessed by thieves. Any computer that stores UBC email must be encrypted.
